Compass believes that recovery involves a team approach. We work closely with our clients and other health professionals to ensure the agreed treatment plan is tailored to meet the needs of the client.
Services are determined after a needs assessment is completed and a plan of action is agreed upon. Services can include:
Mental Health
- Assessing mental health needs including medication effectiveness.
- Referring to therapeutic programs, provide general counselling and suggestions for non-medical interventions.
- Attending psychiatric and general practitioner appointments to advocate and communicate on behalf of the client.
- Monitoring medication compliance and work with pharmacists to find the best medication fit to address the clients symptoms.
Physical Health
- Attaining a general practice doctor, monitoring physical health, attending medical appointments, executing and monitoring treatment plans.
- Assisting/counselling on dietary issues, attaining food and skill building with preparation and storage of food.
- Encouraging exercise including referrals to exercise programs, going for walks or participation in other informal exercise activities.
Housing
- Attaining housing
- Advocating for maintenance of current housing,
- Home visits, skill building to maintain housing, assistance in day to day living.
Finances
- Assisting with budgeting, banking, and rental payments,
- Applying for Ontario Disability support payments including potential of additional money through dietary supplements and travel allowance.
- Attaining wheel trans support and other resources for travel.
Vocational Support
- Referring, advocating and assisting in attaining paid work or volunteer work though traditional means or through programs designated specifically for consumers of the mental health system.
Social Support
- Home visits for check ins, coffee outings or just to talk.
- Referrals to social/recreational programs through tradition resources or specifically for consumers of the mental health system.
Family Support
- Supporting families who have a loved one suffering from mental illness and are having difficulty coping, attaining medical supports and just “don’t know what to do”. Resources, action plans and support will be provided.
- Appointments will be scheduled at your convenience and at your home.
Legal
- Navigating the forensic mental health system with clients deemed Not Criminally Responsible including the Ontario Review Board and Mental Health Court.
- Attaining lawyers who specialize in supporting people who have contact with the legal system due to their mental illness.
- Attaining legal aid.
Consultation
- Consultations services for medical clinics, legal firms, community organizations, educational institutions, and Police services on effective interventions and insight into the complexities of this population of people.
- Dealing with complex/difficult mental health situations, specifically when a client does not have insight into their symptoms. Advising how, where and when to get help.
Compensation
Compass Mental Health Services staff are paid at an hourly rate of $99.00 per hour. Payments can be made by check, cash or e-transfers. Receipts are given upon request and services are tax deductible.
